understanding and wouldn't overreact.”

Elyse felt a pang of hurt and asked, her voice strained, “Overreact, Jayden? Is this how you see me?”

Worried about Corrie’s condition, Jayden quickly replied, “Corrie fainted at the party. | can’t leave her alone. You

stay home. We'll talk later.” Without another glance, he hurried off.

In that moment, Elyse felt a chasm opening between them. Despite their marriage, she realized how little she

knew about Jayden. His past, personality, thoughts, dreams, and ambitions were a mystery to her.
