Chapter 47

"Why did you write this?"

Finnian shook the document, his eyes swirling with anger.

Was he mad? Amara couldn't quite decipher his emotions.

Eyes downcast, she spoke calmly, "You're aware of what's been happening lately. Liliana insists I'm clinging to

you and has repeatedly harassed me, even warningoff. Just the other day, she questioned my

professionalism, suggesting | rewrote the script just for you. Then, she had someone write a defamatory article

about me, leading to a storm of online abuse. | just couldn't take it anymore, so | wrote this statement."

As she spoke, Liliana, usually so composed, was trembling slightly. Finnian glanced at her, and she quickly looked

down.

Finnian looked back at Amara. She maintained her calm demeanor, but her eyes held a sadness that tugged at

the heart.

"Mr. Everly, Ms. Porter, please rest assured," Amara continued, her voice softening.

"You can keep a copy of this. It states the penalty fee if | breach it. You can sueif | do, so there's no need to

worry."

Amara knew clearly that today's actions and this statement put her in a humble position, but she felt she had no

choice. She didn't want Finnian to think she was clinging to him. Even if they couldn't be together, she wished to

leave him with a good impression.

She couldn't afford to offend Liliana. Despite her better family background, she held no real position in her own

household, whereas Liliana had the influential Finnian backing her.

Accepting this reality, Amara realized she couldn't match Liliana's power. Even if Liliana hurt and wronged her,

she lacked the means to fight back.

So, she resorted to this humble way of "proving her innocence" to ensure she wouldn't be harmed again. She

couldn't help but think that if Elysia and Keith knew what she'd done, they'd be furious with her. But she saw no

other way out.

"That's all | have to say. I'm leaving now."

Amara turned and walked away, a lonely shadow trailing her. Finnian felt a pang in his chest, unsure why.

He didn't stop Amara. After the door to the break room closed, he turned to Liliana again, his gaze colder than

ever. "Did you harass Amara?"

Liliana's lips were a tad pale, and she couldn't meet Finnian's eyes, just trying to appear less intimidated.

"Yes, | did approach Ms. Sullivan a few times, but | meant no harm. | was just worried about complications with

the divorce."

Liliana tried to keep her tone balanced, not too aggressive, yet not overly meek. In such a situation, being too

assertive might provoke dislike, but being too soft wouldn't do either. She aimed for a semblance of propriety.

Finnian didn't respond to her explanation. He asked, "Did you commission that article?"

Liliana's heart lurched. The moment she dreaded had arrived.

Finnian locked eyes with her, saying, "Liliana, don't lie. I'll know if you do."

Liliana's fists clenched, and she trembled slightly. How could Finnian see through her lies? Was it his sharp

business acumen, or did he have ways to uncover the truth?
